    Principal's Message

Bail Ó Dhia oraibh!  Welcome to St Thomas NS.

The school has stood on its current site on the Gort-Loughrea road since 1944. Prior to this, our school had been situated where the Joe Cooley Hall now stands in Peterswell Village. As we approach our 80th Anniversary, our school remains at the centre of the wider Peterswell community where the nourishment of our children in the areas of education, the arts, music and sport remains fundamental to our school philosophy.

‘Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí’

We are a co-educational, inclusive school which caters for 62 pupils currently. In 2006 we completed a major new extension adding on a new classroom, kitchen, resource room, reception area and a beautiful, modern Sports Hall that allows us play right through the wet winters. A further extension was completed in 2020 adding a further support room. Our next phase of expansion was the provision of a breakfast club, after school and ECCE in our school building. Peterswell Montessori and Afterschool launched in 2022 and we are very proud of the care and education our pre-schoolers are receiving right here in Peterswell. We are blessed to have excellent spacious play areas including a basketball court, soccer court, playhouse, mud kitchen, pre-marked playground games and a well sized school pitch. We even added an outdoor classroom in 2020 for our junior room.

We are very proud of the success our school enjoys in academia, the arts and sport. We are very proud of the many former students who have gone on to forge successful careers in a variety of fields. During the past decade, we have taken great enjoyment and satisfaction from the success of the St Thomas’ hurling team in winning seven county championships and an All-Ireland crown.

There has always been a belief held in our school that involvement of the wider Peterswell community in the life of the school helps to enhance the education and wellbeing of all our school community. Many events are celebrated such as Grandparents’ Day, educational and entertaining shows in School, the bi-annual recital Christmas concert, Seachtain na Gaeilge activities, fundraising for charities, visitors galore and much much more.

We have over the years garnered a number of Green Flag awards and continue to partake in the Green Schools program. Táimid an-bhródúil gur chuir sí aithne ar dhá Ghael Bhratach le blianta beaga anuas.

For more information about our school, please visit our school blog http://stthomaspeterswell.blogspot.com/ or like the St Thomas NS Facebook page.

We strive to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all our students and I hope you enjoy learning more about our school through our website.
