Bail ó Dhia oraibh. Welcome to St Thomas NS.
The school has stood on its current site on the Gort-Loughrea road since 1944. Before that, our school was situated where the Joe Cooley Hall now stands in Peterswell village. As we pass our 80th anniversary, the school remains at the centre of the wider Peterswell community, where the nourishment of our children in education, the arts, music and sport remains fundamental to what we do.
'Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí'
We are a co-educational, inclusive school. In 2006 we completed a major extension adding a new classroom, kitchen, resource room, reception area and a modern sports hall that allows us to play right through the wet winters. A further extension was completed in 2020, adding another support room.
We are proud of the success our school enjoys in academia, the arts and sport, and of the many former students who have gone on to careers in a wide variety of fields. During the past decade we have taken great enjoyment from the success of the St Thomas' hurling team in winning seven county championships and an All-Ireland crown.
There has always been a belief in our school that involving the wider Peterswell community in school life enhances the education and wellbeing of everyone here. We celebrate Grandparents' Day, educational and entertaining shows in the school, the bi-annual Christmas concert, Seachtain na Gaeilge activities and fundraising for charities.
We have garnered a number of Green Flag awards over the years and continue to take part in the Green Schools programme.
We strive to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all our students, and I hope you enjoy learning more about our school through this website.
